Medemilian Rane, second-in-command for Otrebus Delagia

Medemilian Rane is a Breton rogue and second-in-command for Old Ebonheart gangster, Otrebus Delagia. He handles those pieces of Otrebus Delagia's business that Mr Delagia does not need to handle himself, and as a result will come into contact with you during two Thieves Guild quests.

If you manage to convince Otrebus Delagia to leave the city during 'Infiltrating the Gang', Medemilian will be convicted and can be found in the large, lower cell in the Ebon Tower Legion dungeons.

He wears a common shirt, a pair of expensive pants, and a pair of common shoes. He wields an iron dagger and carries the key to Otrebus Delagia's house. If he is in the Ebon Tower dungeons, he will be wearing only a pair of expensive pants.

Aside from his natural bonus and resistance to magicka, and his ability to shield himself for short periods, he knows no spells.

Dialogue[edit]

  • Greetings:
(Upon first meeting):
"You're under Mister Delagia's roof, citizen. I'm %Name, the numbers guy. Unless you're here on business, I'm going to have to ask you to beat it."
"You're under Mister Delagia's roof. Remember that."
(If he has been convicted after the events of 'Infiltrating the Gang')
"%PCName! You sneaky little bastard. I'm here because of you! Wait till I get my hands on you..." Goodbye (Fight +5)

Thieves Guild: Facing Eviction[edit]

"Get lost, moron."
"Yeah, Nelara's one of our tenants. Her rent's overdue and she hasn't paid back her loans. Why'd you ask?"
  • No reason.:
"Is that so? Quit wasting my time, punk." (Disposition -5)
  • She can't pay you back.:
"Tough luck. It's not our fault she can't pay us back. She should've thought about it before she became our tenant and before she loaned money from us. She knows the rules. People who don't pay their dues to mister Delagia... they end up in the street. No amount of crying is going to change that."
  • I'm not going to let you do that. / I will let the guards know of this. You're going down.:
"Oh, really? Trying to be a hero for the downtrodden, eh? Champion of the little people? Don't make me laugh. We are running a business here. You might not like it... you might even think we're being unethical, but everything we do here is perfectly within the limits of the law. You can't touch us." (Also see 'How much...' and 'Agreed, it's her own...' choices below)
  • You're just a gang of criminals. / You're being unreasonable with Nelara.:
"Is that so? Quit wasting my time, punk." (Disposition -5)
  • I want to discuss this matter with Otrebus Delagia.:
"Ha, aren't you smug! What makes you think the boss would talk to you? Mister Delagia doesn't deal with nobodies like you. That's my job. You want to settle Nelara's debt -- you'll have to talk to me." (Go back to other choices)
  • Forgive Nelara's debt, or I will kill you all.:
(If you are a man):
"A tough guy, eh? Ready to kill? Interesting. I'll make a mental note of you. Mister Delagia might have some use for an assassin like you in the future. But violence won't help you now... The law is on our side, %PCName. And I'm not above calling for the guards myself. You'd just end up arrested. Do yourself a favor and just give up."
(If you are a woman):
"A tough gal, eh? Ready to kill? Interesting. I'll make a mental note of you. Mister Delagia might have some use for an assassin like you in the future. But violence won't help you now... The law is on our side, %PCName. And I'm not above calling for the guards myself. You'd just end up arrested. Do yourself a favor and just give up."
  • How much does Nelara owe you?:
"Lemme consult the ledger... Ah yes... The overdue rent and the loan... in total that's 1500 septims." (Also see 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choice above)
  • Consider that debt settled. Here's 1500 septims.:
"Hmmph... Good. Ah... but now that I look at the ledger closer I realize that she's not off the hook just yet... There's also the matter of paying the interest. The rate in her loan was rather high. And we have to take into account that all these payments are long overdue. That's 1000 septims -- if you please." (Removed 1500 gold from your inventory)
  • Fine. Here's 1000 septims.:
"Excellent. Thank you. Oh... but... silly me... I missed the really small print on the ledger! The interest has also gathered interest. That would be an additional payment of 500 septims, thank you very much. Then her debt is completely settled, I promise." (Removed 1000 gold from your inventory) (Also see 'No way' and 'I've changed my mind' choices below)
  • Fine. Here's 500 septims.:
"You can tell Nelara her debt has been settled. I don't get why you'd help a freeloader like her, but I guess you must have your reasons." (Removed 500 gold from your inventory)
(If you don't have the gold):
"You don't have the money, genius." (See 'I've changed my mind' choice below)
(If you don't have the gold):
"You don't have the money, genius." (See 'I've changed my mind' choice below)
  • No way.:
"Ah, well. Then I'm afraid I can't help you. Unless... unless... you do a little job for us. Then I'd be willing to forgive Nelara's debt." (Also see 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choice above)
  • What's the job?:
"I have some paperwork I need to finish for Mister Delagia, but for that I need Merxia Vendicci's signet ring. Now, she's the director of the East Empire Company, so I figure she must be really busy all the time. Best not to bother her with asking for the ring. It'd be much better if someone just took the signet ring without asking, no?" (Also see 'No way, I'm not...' choice below)
  • I'll steal the ring for you.:
"Ah, good. I happen to know that Vendicci keeps her signet ring in the upstairs dressing room of her manor. One can enter that room from the manor proper, but it might be worth a shot to try to find a different way into her chamber. Find it and bring it to me -- and Nelara's debt is as good as gone, cross my heart." (Disposition +10)
  • No way, I'm not working for your gang.:
"Then you can tell Nelara that she can kiss her home goodbye. The streets of Old Ebonheart can be dangerous for the homeless. Who knows what might happen to her?" (Disposition -5)
  • I've changed my mind. I want back the money I paid you earlier.:
"Money, what money? I'm afraid we don't offer any refunds. But... if you want to settle Nelara's debt for good, maybe you could do a little job for us?" (See 'What's the job?', 'No way, I'm not...', and 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choices above)
(If you don't have the gold)
"You don't have the money, genius. But... if you want to settle Nelara's debt for good, maybe you could do a little job for us?" (See 'What's the job?' and 'No way, I'm not...' choices above)
  • How about I negotiate a discount?:
(If Disposition < 70):
"Nice try. Her debt is 1500 septims. Not a coin less." (See 'Here's 1500 septims', 'Is there something I can..', and 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choices)
(If Disposition ≥ 70):
"A discount, eh? Well... now that I consult my ledger again, I see that her debt is actually 1000 instead of 1500 septims. Do you find 1000 septims reasonable?" (Also see 'Is there something I can...' and 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choices)
  • Consider that debt settled. Here's 1000 septims.:
"Hmmph... Good. Ah... but now that I look at the ledger closer I realize that she's not off the hook just yet... There's also the matter of paying the interest. The rate in her loan was rather high. And we have to take into account that all these payments are long overdue. Another 1000 septims -- if you please." (Removed 1000 gold from your inventory) (See 'Here's 1000 septims', 'No way', and 'I've changed my mind...' choices above)
(If you don't have the gold):
"You don't have the money, genius. But... if you want to settle Nelara's debt for good, maybe you could do a little job for us?" (See 'What's the job?', 'No way, I'm not...', and 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choices above)
(If Disposition ≥ 90):
"A discount, eh? Well... now that I consult my ledger again, I see that her debt is actually 500 instead of 1500 septims. Do you find 500 septims reasonable?" (Also see 'Is there something I can..' choice below)
  • Consider that debt settled. Here's 500 septims.:
"Hmmph... Good. Ah... but now that I look at the ledger closer I realize that she's not off the hook just yet... There's also the matter of paying the interest. The rate in her loan was rather high. And we have to take into account that all these payments are long overdue. That's another 500 septims -- if you please." (See 'Here's 500 septims', 'No way', and 'I've changed my mind...' choices above)
(If you don't have the gold):
"You don't have the money, genius. But... if you want to settle Nelara's debt for good, maybe you could do a little job for us?" (See 'What's the job?' and 'No way, I'm not...' choices above)
  • Is there something I could do to make that debt disappear?:
"Yes, maybe... If you did a little job for me first, then I'd be willing to make her debt go away." (See 'What's the job?' and 'No way, I'm not...' choices above)
  • You're just exploiting the poor!:
"Is that so? Quit wasting my time, punk." (Disposition -5)
  • I want to discuss this matter with Otrebus Delagia.:
"Ha, aren't you smug! What makes you think the boss would talk to you? Mister Delagia doesn't deal with nobodies like you. That's my job. You want to settle Nelara's debt -- you'll have to talk to me." (See 'I'm not going to let you do that', 'How much does Nelara owe you?', 'You're just exploiting the poor!', 'I will let the guards know...', and 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choices above)
  • Agreed, it's her own fault. I'm not going to help her.:
"Then you can tell Nelara that she can kiss her home goodbye. The streets of Old Ebonheart can be dangerous for the homeless. Who knows what might happen to her?" (Disposition -5)
(If you tried arguing with him already):
"This again? Why would you even want to help her? Just let it go. These lazy freeloaders will never learn, if someone is always there to rescue them. Still... if you did a little job for me, I could make Nelara's debt go away." (See 'What's the job?', 'No way, I'm not...', and 'Forgive Nelara's debt, or I...' choices above)
"Where's Merxia Vendicci's signet ring?"
"You have the signet ring. Give it to me. You've been a good little thief, %PCName. There might be a place for someone with your skills in our organization. I'll mention your name to Mister Delagia. Who knows -- maybe we'll contact you in the near future to do another job for us." (Disposition +10, and removed Merxia Vendicci's Signet Ring from your inventory)
  • Continue:
"And yes... I'm keeping my end of the bargain. Nelara's debt is settled. You can tell her that she can keep calling that miserable hut her home."
"That debt has been settled."
(If Nelara is dead):
"You killed her? Saved us the trouble, I guess."

Thieves Guild: Infiltrating the Gang[edit]

  • Greetings:
"You like our new guard boys? They are here because Mister Delagia fears for his life. The Thieves Guild is causing us trouble... but thankfully we are better connected than they are."
"What the boss says goes. He has clear orders for you. S'varr must die."
"Come back when you have Merxia Vendicci's signet ring."
"You have Merxia Vendicci's signet ring? Good. The boss has new orders for you. S'varr must die." (Removed Merxia Vendicci's Signet Ring from your inventory)
"Don't keep the boss waiting."
(If you get arrested):
"What the hell do you think you're doing coming back here? You are our enemy." Goodbye (Disposition -10)
  • join Delagia's gang:
"Join us? Don't make me laugh. This is not some guild you can just join. Hmmph... Why do you wanna join us?"
  • The Thieves Guild is done. I want to be on the winning side.:
"So, you're a rat leaving a sinking ship. That's smart. But why would we want you?"
  • I am a skilled thief.:
"A thief... we might have some use for you. Okay then. You're in. Welcome to the gang." (Disposition +25, Pulso Pollex's Disposition +15, Norri the Crow's Disposition +15, and Gura gra-Lagrob's Disposition +15)
  • Continue:
"There's only one rule: do as you're told. Plain and simple. Right now you're being told to go and get Merxia Vendicci's signet ring for me. I need it for some paperwork."
  • I'll do it.:
"Good. I happen to know that Vendicci keeps her signet ring in the upstairs dressing room of her manor. One can enter that room from the manor proper, but it might be worth a shot to try to find a different way into her chamber. Find it and bring it to me."
  • No thanks.:
"There was only one rule. Do as you're told. It's irrelevant what you think. Vendicci keeps her signet ring in the upstairs dressing room of her manor. One can enter that room from the manor proper, but it might be worth a shot to try to find a different way into her chamber. Now go get that damn ring and don't return without it." Goodbye (Disposition -10)
  • I know how to fight.:
"We've got plenty of fighters. But one more wouldn't hurt. Okay then. You're in. Welcome to the gang." (Disposition +25, Pulso Pollex's Disposition +15, Norri the Crow's Disposition +15, and Gura gra-Lagrob's Disposition +15)
  • Continue: (See 'There's only one rule...' response above)
  • I'm good with money.:
"Think you could replace me? No way. But we need someone to run some errands. You could do that, right? Okay then. You're in. Welcome to the gang." (Disposition +25, Pulso Pollex's Disposition +15, Norri the Crow's Disposition +15, and Gura gra-Lagrob's Disposition +15)
  • Continue: (See 'There's only one rule...' response above)
  • I want to meet Mister Delagia.:
"Is that so? Mister Delagia certainly doesn't want to meet you. Not yet anyway. If you prove yourself, then maybe you'll be granted the boss' audience. But... that's the key question. Why would we want you? What can you offer us?" (See 'I am a skilled thief', 'I know how to fight', or 'I'm good with money' choices above)
  • I want to learn more about the loansharking, extortion and murder industry.:
"Lesson one: in this organization, jokes won't get you very far." Goodbye (Disposition -10)
  • No particular reason.:
"No particular reason? Do I look like a moron to you?" Goodbye (Disposition -10)
(If you already got Merxia Vendicci's Signet Ring during 'Facing Eviction'):
"Join us? Hmmm... You did steal that signet ring for me a while back. Why do you wanna join us?" (See identical choices above)
"Bring me Merxia Vendicci's signet ring first."
(If you are already in Delagia's gang):
"Hmph. You're already in. Congratulations."
(After joining Delagia's gang):
"You're already in. Congratulations."
  • S'varr must die:
"Hmph. We'll talk about that later."
"S'varr has crossed Mister Delagia one time too many and he must pay. When we searched his house, it was empty. He's hiding somewhere in the city. I want you to find him and kill him. Someone among the citizens must know where he is."
"Come back when S'varr's dead."
"S'varr is dead, eh? Got any proof?"
  • Not yet.:
"Come back when you've got proof that he's dead."
  • Sure.:
"Hmphh. You've got nothing. Come back when you've got proof that he's dead." (Disposition -5)
(If you have S'varr's Amulet):
"The cat's amulet? Looks like he's dead then. Here's your payment. Now... you have attracted the boss' attention. He wants to talk with you in private. He's waiting for you upstairs. I suggest you don't keep him waiting." Goodbye (Disposition +10, removed S'varr's Amulet from your inventory, and you receive 400 gold)
(If you have Cloth with S'varr's blood):
"A cloth covered in the cat's blood? He's really dead then. Well done. Here's your payment. Now... you have attracted the boss' attention. He wants to talk with you in private. He's waiting for you upstairs. I suggest you don't keep him waiting." Goodbye (Disposition +15, removed Cloth with S'varr's blood from your inventory, and you receive 500 gold)
(If S'varr is dead):
"The cat is dead? Proper dead? Well done. Here's your payment. Now... you have attracted the boss' attention. He wants to talk with you in private. He's waiting for you upstairs. I suggest you don't keep him waiting." Goodbye (Disposition +15, and you receive 500 gold)
"You were already paid for that job, weren't you?"
